Cheesy Baked Mostaccioli

A comforting dish of baked mostaccioli pasta with savory ground meat and a blend of cheeses, perfect for family dinners.

  • 16 oz mostaccioli pasta
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 lb ground beef or Italian sausage
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Cook the mostaccioli pasta according to the package directions, seasoning the water with a pinch of salt. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, add olive oil. Once hot, add chopped onion and minced garlic, sauté for 2-3 minutes until translucent.
  3. Add the ground beef (or Italian sausage) and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Stir in marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  5. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked pasta with the meat sauce, stirring until evenly coated.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. In a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, spread half of the pasta mixture. Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese on top.
  8. Add the remaining pasta mixture and top with 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella and ¼ cup grated Parmesan.
  9. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes.
  10. Remove foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes, until cheese is bubbly and golden.
  11. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For a healthier twist, substitute ground beef with turkey or use gluten-free pasta.
