Monte Cristo French Toast Casserole

A delightful twist on the classic Monte Cristo sandwich, this casserole combines the flavors of ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese with fluffy French toast. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a cozy dinner.

  • 1 loaf French bread, cut into cubes
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup honey ham, diced
  • 1 cup turkey, diced
  • 1 cup Swiss cheese, shredded
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon.
  3. Layer half of the French bread cubes in the greased baking dish. Add the diced ham and turkey, followed by half of the Swiss cheese. Top with the remaining bread cubes.
  4. Sprinkle the rest of the Swiss cheese on top.
  5. Pour the custard mixture over the layered ingredients and gently press down on the bread cubes.
  6. Mix the melted butter with brown sugar and drizzle over the top.
  7. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve warm or at room temperature. Pairs well with powdered sugar or maple syrup.
