Monte Cristo French Toast Casserole

A delightful casserole that combines savory ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese with sweet custard, all baked to perfection for an irresistible breakfast or brunch dish.

  • 1 loaf French bread, cut into cubes
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup honey ham, diced
  • 1 cup turkey, diced
  • 1 cup Swiss cheese, shredded
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • Powdered sugar for serving (optional)
  • Maple syrup for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  3. Layer half of the cubed French bread in the baking dish, followed by half of the diced ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese.
  4. Pour half of the custard mixture over the bread and meat layers.
  5. Repeat layering with the remaining bread, ham, turkey, and cheese, followed by the remaining custard mixture.
  6. Mix brown sugar and melted butter, then drizzle over the casserole.
  7. Bake for 45-55 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the center is set.
  8. Allow to cool slightly and dust with powdered sugar before serving warm with maple syrup.

Notes

For best results, use day-old bread. Customizable with different meats and cheeses.
