Monte Cristo French Toast Casserole

A delightful twist on breakfast that combines classic French toast flavors with the savory goodness of a Monte Cristo sandwich, perfect for family gatherings or cozy weekends.

  • 1 loaf French bread
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup honey ham, diced
  • 1 cup turkey, diced
  • 1 cup Swiss cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • Powdered sugar (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  3. Cut the French bread into 1-2 inch cubes and place them in the prepared baking dish.
  4. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  5. Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes and gently toss to coat.
  6. Sprinkle the diced ham, turkey, and shredded Swiss cheese on top.
  7. In a separate bowl, mix the brown sugar and melted butter, then drizzle over the casserole.
  8. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  9. Uncover and bake for 30 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 15 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Let it cool for a few minutes, then dust with powdered sugar and serve.

Notes

For the best flavor, let the casserole soak overnight. Customize the recipe by using different meats or adding vegetables.
